LEARN MORE ABOUT TRAUMA INFORMED PRACTICES

Meet Samantha Ballington

I am a mum of two daughters and married to a Maths teacher husband, living in Derbyshire, UK. As a trauma-survivor myself, I am dedicated to educational development and supporting people with lived experiences to break the cycle and help others. In 2020, I launched a training organisation specialising in Early Years, Education, and Child and Family Wellbeing, offering regulated and customised qualifications in these areas. In 2023, I founded the Association of Child and Family Coaches, creating an ethical framework designed for those working with children and families in a playful and therapeutic way. This step was inspired by my learners understating my courses: the Level 3, 5, and 6 qualifications in Therapeutic Play Coaching and Parent Coaching Practice Level 5 Diplomas. These programmes were designed for individuals with their own lived experiences who have the mindset, vision, and goals to help others, and cement these into knowledgeable practitioners ready to support their family clients.

As a specialist in early years and education, I have delivered key note speeches and been invited to panels at locations such as the NEC in Birmingham and the Excel in London. I have won awards for innovation in education and for Inspirational Educator. I have written in publications such as Nursery Management Today and am authoring the textbook for the new DfE Reformed Early Years Qualifications, where I discuss the importance of regulation in adults to be able to support children to regulate themselves - an area of specialism for me. This follows with my work in partnership with The Early Years Company, where I deliver training in safeguarding, the power of play, and ‘See Me, Not My Behaviour’, to early years providers and settings across the region. My next steps include undertaking a BPS accredited Master Degree in Mental Wellbeing and Psychology in a bid to train in Child Psychology and strengthen my knowledge and practice.

As a trauma-survivor who took the chance to use my own experiences to help others, I have harnessed the opportunity to formalise my own learning with the Mental Wellbeing Company, and have studied the CMI Level 7 in Trauma-Informed and Leadership Coaching. Partnering with the Mental Wellbeing Company has given me the opportunity to further share my experiences with others and share the importance of mental wellbeing across all sectors - education, business, parenting, and more - creating a world where mental wellbeing is prioritised for all, enhancing all our lives and the healthy productivity in everything we do.
